Record Sale Average at Eastern Summer Sale 2000
Records were set in nearly every statistical category at the Eastern Summer
Sale. New auction records were set across the board with the largest
increases coming in gross sales, up thirty three percent (33%) and average
price. "This was the best Summer Sale we have ever had. It looks like the
horse industry boom is still going strong" said Tim Jennings, Vice President
of Professional Auction Services, Inc.
The average sale price rose fourteen percent (14%) over the 1999 sale average
to $2,640 per horse. The median price rose eight percent (8%) to $2,150 per
horse. Both increases were driven by a dramatic jump in the number of horses
sold for $5,000 or more which doubled from the 1999 sale. The top end of the
market improved with the average price for the top fifty sellers jumping
twenty one percent (21%).
Quarter Horses led the way with an increase in average price of twenty three
percent (23%) to $2,900. Quarter Horses accounted for the nine of the top
ten sellers including the High Selling Horse.
The 2000 Eastern Summer Sale was the first time Professional Auction
Services, Inc. has held it’s Summer Quarter Horse and Paint Sale in the Sale
Pavilion at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium, Maryland. The
Eastern Summer Sale had been held at the Virginia State Fairgrounds in
Richmond until 1999 when it was moved to the North Carolina State Fairgrounds
in Raleigh. “Since the horse facility in Richmond has been torn down we have
been looking for a home for this sale. The Fairgrounds in Raleigh was
available last year because of the Special Olympics but they didn’t have an
open date this year.” said Jennings. “The move to Maryland seems to have
worked.”
The Eastern Summer Sale was produced by Professional Auction Services, Inc.
of Leesburg, Virginia. Professional Auction Services, Inc. was founded in
1978 by Mike Jennings and Tim Jennings and has managed over 160 Horse
Auctions with sales of nearly $70,000,000.00. Auctioneers for the Sale were
Mike Jennings and Tim Jennings of Professional Auction Services, Inc.
