$80,000 Broodmare Tops Select Paint Breeders Production Sale

A Thoroughbred broodmare fetched a top price of $80,000 at the first Select Paint Breeders Production Sale held on June 2 at State Fair Park in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The 13 year old daughter of Cormorant was in foal to See Me Com En, APHA and Jockey Club registered, APHA Superior Hunter Under Saddle and sire of the current APHA #1 Hunter Under Saddle horse. She is a maternal half sister to 1999 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Charismatic, and Millennium Wind, winner of the Grade 1 2001 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes. She was one of 6 horses consigned by Jim Smith Performance Horses of Lynchburg, Ohio.

"There were at least 5 or 6 people still bidding on her at about $50,000 including her breeder, Tom Roach of Parrish Hill in Lexington, Kentucky. After $50,000 it got down to just two bidders, the under bidder, Dr. Sandy Willwerth from Virginia, who was bidding over the phone, and the eventual buyers of the mare" said Tim Jennings, Vice President of Professional Auction Services, Inc. Bali Breeze was purchased for $80,000 by a partnership of Bob Moore Farms, represented by Phil Stewart, and Vessels Stallion Farm, owned by Frank "Scoop" Vessels, member of the AQHA Executive Committee. The foal Bali Breeze is carrying will be retained by Stewart's wife, Wendy. Wendy is a long time breeder of show horses including AQHA World Champion Jr. Western Pleasure Horse, A Sudden Impulse. The sale averaged a solid $4,095 with the top ten selling horses averaging $14,350. "This sale was typical of the market conditions we have seen this year. The good horses sold well" said Jennings. "Today's buyers are smarter and more selective than ever. Especially when it comes to the Halter Horses."

The Select Paint Breeders Production Sale was created to provide an auction market for Paint breeders who need a market for their Quarter Horse mares bred to Paint Stallions. Trisha Shorten of Diamond Venture Show Horses in Oklahoma and Marvin Teiman of Tieman Paint Horses in Tennessee came up with the idea for a sale, "Trisha deserves a lot of the credit for this sale" commented Jennings. "She worked hard to get other breeders involved."

A group of Leading breeders consigned horse to the sale including Marvin Tieman's Tieman Paint Horses, Roger Bird Show Horses, Keith and Sherrye Tittle's Triple T Paints, Nick and Shelly Lombardi's Triple B Ranch and The Perry Family's Classic Acres.

The Sale was managed by Professional Auction Services, Inc. of Leesburg, Virginia. Professional Auction Services, Inc. was founded in 1978 by Mike Jennings and Tim Jennings and has managed over 165 horse auctions with gross sales of over $70,000,000. Auctioneers for the sale were Mike Jennings, Tim Jennings of Professional Auction Services, Inc.
