The Virginia Hunter and Sport Horse Spring Sale continued the trend of record breaking auctions at Frying Pan Park in Herndon, Virginia. The Sale, held March 19, 2005, showed significant increases in most statistical categories.
The addition of the new Premier Session lead the record setting sale. The average sale price for the session was $7,663 and the median price for the session was $7,200. "Once again, this session was very well received by both sellers and buyers" said Tim Jennings, Director of Marketing at Professional Auction Services, Inc. "It was a quality group of horses and the buyers responded." Nine of the top ten selling horses were in the Premier Session.
A Spring Sale record was set for the High Selling Horse when Hip Number 77 sold for a final bid price of $17,200 surpassing the previous mark, set in 2004. Blessed Assurance, a seven year old Selle Francais mare consigned by Silver Lining Farm sold to Diana Bowling. The second High Seller was Grand Chardonnay, ringing up a final price of $15,000 from Anne Taylor. The ten year old Paint mare was sold by Jennifer HarrisÕs Cornerstone Farm.
In addition to a record high seller, the sale set records in almost every other category. It was the highest average sale price at $3,184, the highest gross sales; and the highest median price at $2,200.
"This shows that the auction method of marketing is the most efficient and effective way to sell a quality horse or pony. The Thoroughbred industry has known this for a century and we hope to move the Hunter and Sport Horse industry in that direction" Jennings.
"The horses and ponies that performed the best sold the best," stated Jennings. "If one had an off day or came out of the barn and did something stupid, it was penalized by the buying public. The buyers clearly wouldn't pay for someone else's problems. "
