Quarter Horse Show Sale
The 2001 World Championship Quarter
Horse Show Sale was held on November 15, 16 & 17, 2001 in conjunction with the American Quarter
Horse Association's World Championship Quarter Horse Show in Oklahoma City,
Oklahoma.
“This sale really surprised us”,
said Professional Auction Services, Inc. Vice President Tim Jennings. “We were expecting a significant decline in
the market in light of the current economic recession and the tragedy of
September 11.” The three percent (3%)
decline in the Sale Average from the
2000 sale was evident with marginal declines at all price levels. (See break down by “Decile” below)
“The prices here are a direct reflection
of the market conditions, “ said Jennings.
“This was the best promoted sale in the history of the Industry. “ Sale advertising included 25 pages in the
Quarter Horse Journal as well as advertising in the Quarter Horse News, Pacific
Coast Journal and The Way To Go. “We had
great crowds for every session of the sale from beginning to end,” stated
Jennings. “The buying public told us what these horses are worth.”
The high selling horse was Zippos
After Shock who sold for $100,000 to Dr. Cyril Gaum of Boston,
Massachusetts. Zippos After Shock, a
1993 son of Zippo Pine Bar, was the 2000 Equi-Stat #2 Leading Sire of Longe
Line Money Earners; #13 Leading Pleasure Sire, All-Ages-All
Divisions; #19 Leading
Sire of 3 Year Old Pleasure Money Earners (his oldest foals). Zippos After Shock was sold by Cole and
Catheren Trainer of Michigan.
The high selling mare, part of the
Clark Rassi Quarter Horses consignment, was Wait Up Sis. The 9 year old daughter of Mr Conclusion is a
Superior Halter producer and a full sister to 6 time World Champion mare Pick
Me Please. She was purchased by Harpole
Farms, Ltd. Rassi sold eight of the ten
broodmares entered for an average price of $43,398. Four of Rassi’s broodmares sold for more
than $50,000 each.
Linda Danielson’s Romancing The
Move was the high selling yearling and high selling gelding. The son of Leading English Sire Artful Move
sold for $37,000 to Cecelia Hylton of Virginia.
Danielson was agent for Daniel Svihra from Illinois. The High Selling English Broodmare, Super
Countess, sold for $26,000. The fifteen
year old mare sold in foal to Artful Move
and was consigned by Chuck Nifong,agent for Gerri Lee Pratt. She was purchased by Bryan Gramlich of
Michigan.
Leading Breeders Dan and Carol
McWhirter’s consignment boasted the High Selling Western Pleasure Broodmare and
the High Selling Western Pleasure Yearling.
Impulsive Venture, a six year old daughter of Impulsions who was bred to
Good Asset, sold for $38,500 to Tami Napier of Indiana. The McWhirters were agent for Mike Hershberger
of Nebraska. The yearling filly,
Initially An Asset by Good Asset, fetched a top price of $30,000.
The World Championship Quarter Horse Show Sale
continued its broad national and international appeal. Horses from 39 states and Canada were offered
for sale. Buyers from 38 states
purchased horses at the sale along with international buyers from Canada,
Mexico and Germany .
The Sale was managed by
Professional Auction Services, Inc. of Leesburg, Virginia. Professional Auction Services, Inc was
founded in 1978 by Mike Jennings and Tim Jennings and has managed nearly 180 horse auctions
with gross sales of nearly $80,000,000.
Auctioneers for the sale were Keith Babb of Monroe, Louisiana, Mike Jennings, Tim Jennings, Tony Langdon of
Dallas, Texas and Joel White of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
